Dubai’s Diamond Trade Just Broke a Fourteen Year Record

Dubai moved more diamonds and more value than ever in 2025, revealing how deeply the city now sits inside a global trade route.

Dubai diamond trade record represented by a polished diamond and global trade activity

Dubai diamond trade record figures have reached a level the city had not seen in fourteen years. Total diamond trade climbed to USD 41.7 billion in 2025, passing the previous high of USD 40.9 billion set in 2011.

The value alone would be enough for a strong headline. The more unusual detail is that physical volume also reached a record. Dubai traded 359.5 million carats during the year, up 42.5 percent from 2024.

This was the first time the emirate recorded an all time high in both value and volume during the same year, according to data from Dubai Customs shared by DMCC.

That combination suggests more than a temporary price movement. It points to Dubai’s expanding role as a place where producers, manufacturers, traders, retailers, logistics companies, banks, and grading services meet.

What drove the Dubai diamond trade record

Total trade value across every diamond category rose 16.2 percent from USD 35.8 billion in 2024. That added about USD 5.8 billion in one year.

Natural diamonds remained the economic centre of the market. They generated USD 39.9 billion and represented 95.8 percent of total trade value.

Rough diamonds supplied much of the physical momentum. Dubai traded 205.2 million carats of natural rough diamonds, about 34 percent more than the previous year and the second highest annual volume on record.

Natural polished diamond trade reached USD 18.7 billion, rising almost 25 percent. Since 2020, its value has increased 246 percent, while average value per carat has risen by roughly eight to nine times.

Those numbers show how the market has grown at both ends. Dubai is moving very large volumes of rough stones while also increasing the value of polished trade passing through its ecosystem.

Coloured gemstones are becoming a larger story

The record was not limited to diamonds. Coloured gemstone trade reached USD 1.1 billion in 2025, an increase of 48 percent.

Imports rose 68.8 percent and reexports increased 33.5 percent. That matters because a broader precious stones market can attract more specialists, services, events, finance, and retail activity around the core diamond trade.

Synthetic and industrial diamonds now account for about 39 percent of total diamond carat volume. Natural stones still dominate value, but the volume mix reveals a market serving several different industries rather than one luxury segment.

For Dubai, diversification within the trade can make the ecosystem more resilient. A centre that handles natural stones, laboratory products, industrial uses, and coloured gems has more reasons for international companies to maintain a presence.

Why Dubai sits inside the global route

Dubai connects producing countries with manufacturing centres and consumer markets. Geography helps, but geography alone does not create a USD 41.7 billion market.

DMCC points to secure logistics, customs services, finance, regulation, grading, specialised infrastructure, and the Dubai Diamond Exchange. Together, these services reduce friction across a trade where trust, speed, and traceability matter.

Since 2020, total diamond trade through Dubai has grown 139 percent in value and 100 percent in volume. Over the past decade, value has increased 63 percent and volume has risen 44 percent.

Those longer comparisons are useful because they show that the Dubai diamond trade record did not appear from one isolated year. It sits inside a sustained expansion of the city’s position in the global market.

A record is a milestone, not a guarantee

Trade figures describe activity, not automatic profit. Diamond prices, consumer demand, currency movements, regulation, sourcing standards, and global economic conditions can all change.

The 2025 record confirms the scale of Dubai’s platform. The next test is whether the ecosystem can keep improving transparency, efficiency, responsible sourcing, and access to finance as volumes grow.

For businesses and investors, the clearest message is that Dubai is no longer simply a convenient stop between markets. It has become one of the places where the structure of the global stones trade is being shaped.
